Legal Consultant/Fractional General Counsel

Cost-Effective and Flexible Legal Leadership

Many growing companies experience challenges managing legal affairs. Companies with small or no dedicated internal legal function often incur excessive outside counsel costs and/or struggle to handle legal matters that distract management from their regular responsibilities. Even large corporate legal departments sometimes require contract resources to address temporary needs and provide flexibility.

For over 30 years I served as in-house counsel, most recently at VAALCO Energy, Inc. in the capacity of General Counsel, Corporate Secretary and Chief Compliance Officer. Prior to that, I was an attorney at BHP Billiton Petroleum, Constellation Energy and ExxonMobil. Having earned an M.B.A. and working closely with executive teams, I appreciate the importance of legal counsel who understands your business and serves as a trusted advisor. My experience includes mergers & acquisitions, contract drafting & negotiations, corporate governance & compliance programs, Human Resources & internal investigations and litigation & dispute resolution.

I provide a range of legal services, including fractional general counsel, to individual companies on a contract basis. Costs are a fraction of other legal providers who often require a significant learning curve. In addition, I can interact with your retained law firms to ensure efficiency and relieve management of the burden of dealing with legal matters outside their areas of expertise.

I bring the experience of working at some of the largest corporations in the world, on matters involving hundreds of millions of dollars. I have also worked for a smaller company, managing all legal, compliance and corporate secretary matters. Whether you seek a fractional general counsel or short-term assistance on a specific matter, I welcome the opportunity discuss your company’s legal needs and strategies to reduce costs, improve responsiveness and mitigate risks.
